Tall privacy fence planning

8 Foot Privacy Fence Options

An 8-foot privacy fence provides taller screening for residential yards, commercial properties, equipment areas, pools, and other locations where standard six-foot fencing does not provide enough coverage. Perimtec's standard 8-foot-tall option uses the Steel Frame Fence System in an 8'H × 6'W section.

Read height first

What Does 8'H × 6'W Mean?

8 feet is the finished section height; 6 feet is the section width. Dimensions are shown as height × width.

An 8'H × 6'W section should not be confused with the wider, shorter 6'H × 8'W section.

Taller Sections Need Deliberate Planning

Layout, posts, gates, exposure, mounting, grade, local requirements, and site conditions all deserve careful review. Requirements vary, so final structural decisions must be verified for the actual project.

More visual coverage

Why Choose an 8-Foot Privacy Fence?

Eight-foot screening can address sightlines that a standard six-foot fence does not, where local rules and the project design allow it.

  • Taller backyard privacy
  • Neighboring grade or elevated sightlines
  • Pool and patio screening
  • Equipment or utility screening
  • Commercial perimeter privacy
  • Service or storage-area screening
  • Separation from roads or adjacent properties

8-Foot Fence Posts, Gates, and Site Planning

Plan the full section layout, including end, line, corner, and gate-post locations. Identify gate openings, swing direction and clearance, mounting conditions, grade changes, and wind exposure.

Review local zoning, permits, and setbacks, plus project-specific structural verification where required. Requirements vary by site and jurisdiction. Final post, footing, mounting, and structural design must be verified for the actual project.

8-Foot Residential Versus Commercial Use

Residential

Backyard privacy, pools, patios, neighboring elevation, and road screening.

Residential and commercial sites do not necessarily use the same posts, foundations, or engineering. Verify the design for the actual application.

8-Foot Versus 10–12 Foot Screening

Standard 8-Foot Privacy Fence

The standard 8'H × 6'W Steel Frame product can be configured and purchased through the shop where eight feet provides sufficient screening.

Custom 10–12 Foot Screening

A custom project requiring more extensive design and site review through the quote path. Review the 10–12 foot screening guide.

Do not stack or extend the standard 8'H × 6'W kit to create a taller fence.

Quick answers

8-Foot Privacy Fence FAQ

Can I buy an 8-foot privacy fence kit online?
Yes. The standard 8'H × 6'W Steel Frame kit can be configured and purchased in the shop.
What does 8×6 mean?
It means 8 feet high by 6 feet wide. Perimtec lists section dimensions as height × width, so it is not the same as a 6'H × 8'W section.
Can an 8-foot privacy fence use horizontal boards?
Compatible wood or cedar, WPC/composite, vinyl, and Designer Metal/corrugated options may be available horizontally. Confirm the current shop configuration because not every infill works in every orientation.
Can an 8-foot Steel Frame fence use vertical boards?
The vertical 8'H × 6'W configuration is limited to compatible Designer Metal/corrugated options. Vertical wood, WPC, and vinyl are not offered in this size.
Is Aluminum Frame available in an 8-foot height?
No. Aluminum Frame is not offered as an 8-foot-tall system. Single Color Steel Privacy is also a 6'H × 8'W system, not an 8-foot-tall system.
Does an 8-foot privacy fence require a permit?
Requirements vary by site and jurisdiction. Review local zoning, permits, setbacks, and any project-specific structural requirements before ordering or installation.
What is the difference between an 8-foot fence and a 12-foot screening fence?
Eight feet follows the standard 8'H × 6'W Steel Frame product path. A 10–12 foot screen is a custom project requiring more extensive design and site review; it should not be made by stacking or extending standard sections.
